Eric James

Eric James cured his anxiety by thinking outside of the box and becoming a serial entrepreneur.  He currently owns five business, has worked with David Blaine and met with Richard Branson to land himself a spot on Virgin Galatic’s inaugural flight.

Eric James doesn’t let the size of his dreams slow him down. As a truly global entrepreneur and adventurer, he runs an instructional magic company, a same-day printing company, is a fighter pilot, and a photographer. He also is developing an app called TimeVana, which aims to help people become more productive. All of this wasn’t enough for him though, so he is working on going into space!

Going to space is a huge dream for anyone, but Eric broke it down into very small actions. The first small action he took toward it was checking Richard Branson’s Twitter feed. It was this small action that informed him that Richard would be attending a party in Miami. Eric decided to try and crash this party in order to meet him. He was able to do so, and even got to show Richard his photography. It is still a work in progress, but as of now Eric has a seat on Richard Branson’s space flight!

Eric’s goal for 2013 was to master time. He read a ton of books on different time management skills, and learned all he could about them. He felt that the problem with these systems is that people eventually give up on them. So he started developing TimeVana, which intelligently tracks the categories of your life. This means you can focus on all the different things you want to accomplish – like starting a business, spending time with your family, and exercising – without sacrificing any of them.

Key UnStuckable Takeaway

Dream big! Seriously!

Having a large dream doesn’t have to give you anxiety. If you just break it down into very tiny steps, it becomes much more achievable. Be genuine about what it is that you want, and don’t let the size of your dream get in your way.

Quick Action to Get Unstuck

Write down five things that are important to you.

Once you have this list, prioritize them. Think about which ones are the most important to you and which ones you want to start focusing more on. Then take one small action toward the goal on the top of your list.

More Habits & Actions

  • Choose your business based on what you are passionate about. Eric is passionate about things that give him awe, and so he chooses ventures that give him that feeling.
  • Pick out a large goal, then break it down into small steps. Going to space may have seemed like an impossible goal to start off with, but once Eric broke it down into smaller pieces, it became much easier. Now he is on the list to go on Richard Branson’s space flight.
  • Try to open many doors to a goal, rather than plan out a specific way to get there. Eric says that things rarely go as planned, so give yourself as many opportunities to reach your goal as you can.
  • Find a way to add value to a community. This will give you a great place to start your business, along with getting to help people who need it.
